Digidesign Pro Tools 7.4 Software

Version 7.4 of Digidesign's Pro Tools brings Elastic Time and other improvements to the de facto standard digital audio workstation system. For Pro Tools|HD®, Pro Tools LE®, and Pro Tools M-Powered™ users, Elastic Time allows already recorded audio tracks to be time-manipulated, without affecting pitch or sound quality, just like changing tempo of any virtual MIDI instrument sequencer track.

Unlike Beat Detective which slices audio into subdivisions of the session's tempo, Elastic Time stretches or compress the tempo and timing of loops, music, dialog, and other sound files in real time using any one of four especially designed algorithms. Because there are separate algorithms for percussive (drums etc.), monophonic (vocals or lead instruments), polyphonic (keyboards and guitars), and varispeed (like changing a tape recorder's speed), the sound quality is always superb. With Elastic Time you can quantize audio to the session grid or extracted grooves, and fine-tune regions with precise control over each individual beat.

Other 7.4 improvements are: the improved Workspace now allows the instant audition of disparate stereo loops in any tempo by automatically converted them "on the fly" to the session's tempo and sync; support for Avid Mojo SDI on Pro Tools LE systems; direct media streaming to and from Avid Unity ISIS shared storage networks on Windows XP-based systems; and Avid Media Station|PT 2.7 Software with Video Satellite support. Pro Tools 7.4 software is available for Windows XP and Mac OS X (Tiger)-based Pro Tools|HD systems as well as Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X (Tiger)-based Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered systems. Expanded Windows Vista and OS X (Leopard) support will be announced later. Pro Tools HD: $199 standard upgrade; $79 upgrade from Pro Tools HD 7.3; Pro Tools LE/M-Powered: $75 standard upgrade; $49 upgrade from Pro Tools LE/M-Powered 7.3.
