EMAD Bass Drum Head from Evans
Gear Lust Web Site | Go To The Music Connection "New Toys" Directory |
EMAD stands for Externally Mounted Adjustable Damping and is one of three new products for bass drums from Evans. The EQRGS pad is an hourglass-shaped muffling pad that will eliminate the need of multiple pads for different damping levels and the AF Patch is a bass drum patch made from Aramid Fiber...the same stuff in bullet-proof vests.
The EMAD system allows for quick and easy adjustment of bass drum damping without removing the head. Glued to the beater side is a retainer rim just slightly smaller than the head's overall diameter. This rim accepts one of the two included foam dampening rings. One ring has about twice the width of the other and you can change them easily in seconds. This external system is said maximize natural attack characteristics while offering better dynamic range. In the studio, it was easy to adjust both the head's sound and pedal response by quickly swapping out the dampening rings. The EMAD heads come in sizes from 18 to 24 inches with prices from $60 to $70 MSRP. For much more, contact J. D'Addario & Company at 595 Smith Street, P.O. Box 290, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
